Choosing the Best
Choosing the Best is a multi-tiered
health education
program provided to the students in Carrollton-Farmers Branch. While it presents
an abstinence–focused curriculum for all students in grades five, seven, and
nine, it also offers age appropriate insights into what is happening with
students’ bodies and the accompanying emotions. Each grade level has six to
eight lessons that empower students to make appropriate decisions as teens and
for the rest of their lives. You as parents will begin seeing workbooks and
parent involved exercises come home with your students.
The fifth grade program, Choosing the Best Way, includes lessons on character
building and goal setting.
The middle school program, Choosing the Best Path, includes more in depth
discussions of sex and related sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV/Aids.
Students are taught to continue set high goals for themselves by setting their
own boundaries and being assertive when it comes to their own bodies and making
their own personal choices.
The high school program, Choosing the Best Life, encompasses the areas of
self-discipline and self respect, as well as once again taking responsibility
for one’s actions. Topics include sex and emotions, as well as the influences of
drugs and alcohol, teen pregnancy, love and limits, and the courage to say “NO”.
Choosing the Best has been presented across the nation since 1993 to more than
one million students. Please go to their website for more information at
