Now it time to get into gear and to think of things that you can do for our
environment. This year's Texas PTA Environmental Awareness Contest theme is
“What Can I Do?”
With this theme our
students will be challenged to think of ways that they can help the
environment. We all can do our fair share by just changing our daily
routines and showing our children how to care for the environment by
example. At several schools, we have active Green Teams that help recycle
all of the paper that is recyclable on campus. They keep our Abitibi bins
full and thus keep the campus environmentally friendly as well as earn money
for their campus. The Green Teams also help their campuses by encouraging
the student body to be more aware of how the recycling process works.
One of the most
important things that we are are doing on a district wide level is
recycling our newspapers in the Abitibi bins at our local campuses. This is
great way of raising additional funding for our schools. Many families in
our school district also have access to the large blue recycling bins that
their city provides. As a PTA, we can help encourage families to teach our
children the value of recycling by making it a part of our everyday
routine. The City of Carrollton has a great resource that you can use at
www.keepcarrolltonbeautiful.org.
The deadline for this
contest is March 5. This still gives us enough time to have winners
advance on the the Area Level.
This should be a fun and
exciting contest! Good Luck!
