National PTA Launches Common Core State Standards & Advocacy Toolkits
National PTA is pleased to announce the launch of the Common Core State Standards toolkit and advocacy toolkit available on PTA.org. Both toolkits provide detailed information and training to help PTA members champion for educational equity and opportunity for all children. We encourage our leaders and members to share these new resources with other families.
More than 45 states have formally adopted the Common Core State Standards, and National PTA has been at the forefront educating parents and communities about the new standards, their implementation, and the impact they will have on our children and schools. The Common Core toolkit includes a variety of resources relating to the new standards, including:
- Common Core history and basic information,
- assessment tools,
- parent guides,
- frequently asked questions, and
- state-specific resource lists.
In addition to the Common Core toolkit, the new advocacy toolkit is now available online for PTA members. This toolkit contains is a step-by-step guide to conduct advocacy training on a variety of topics, including:
- campaign strategy,
- coalition building,
- recruitment tools,
- meeting with decision makers, and
- working with the media.
